In July 2003, a team of Walls Communications media specialists coordinated and managed press coverage of the U.S, Army’s participation at the annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.

A number of Army officials, including General John Hawkins and Command Sergeant Major Michelle Jones mixed and mingled with such notables as Essence Magazine Editor-in-Chief Susan Taylor, New Orleans MayorRay Nagin and students from Hampton University’s ROTC Pirate Battalion.

Walls Communications also produced and distributed several audio news releases (ANRs) from New Orleans. The ANRs featured stories on the Festival’s tribute to singer Luther Vandross as well as interviews with noted UPN celebrities Monique and Lisa Rae. The ANRs garnered more than 19.7 million audience impressions.

return to top SOURCE MAGAZINE & U.S. ARMY CAMPUS COMBAT TOUR

In a unique effort to connect with potential recruits, during October 2003 the U.S. Army partnered with one of the vanguard publications of Hip-Hop culture, Source Magazine, to sponsor a series of “Campus Combat” events at the University of Pittsburgh, Maryland University, Temple University, DePaul University and Stony Brook University. The events featured MC battles as well as performances from such popular Hip-Hop artists as Nappy Roots, Memphis Bleek and Black Moon.

A team from Walls Communications provided extensive media relations support for the Source/Army “Campus Combat” tour. Resultant media coverage included articles in the Baltimore Sun, Chicago Tribune, Newsday and ALLHIPHOP.com. Radio coverage for the events included the American Urban Radio Network (AURN), the Southern Urban Radio Network (SURN) and a number of urban and Hip-Hop oriented radio stations nationwide.

In November 2003, Walls Communications provided media relations support for the Executive Leadership Council’s (ELC) Annual Dinner in Washington, DC. In addition to the production and distribution of an audio news release (ANR) that garnered more than 6 million audience impressions, the Walls Communications team distributed press releases and captions from the event to more than 100 African American publications. Among the notable attendees to the ELC event were former astronaut Mae Jemison, noted trial attorney Willie Gary and Anne Fudge, the new Chairman and CEO of advertising giant Young and Rubican.

In addition, Walls Communications coordinated and managed the U.S. Army’s support and participation at the ELC dinner.

return to top WALLS TEAM MEETS WITH THE ARMY CLIENT

In October 2003, members of the Walls Communications team met with Col. Thomas Nickerson and his staff at the Walls Communications offices to discuss the status of current projects and the development of upcoming projects in 2004. Col. Nickerson is the Director of Strategic Outreach for the U.S. Army Accessions Command (recruiting).

For more than three years, Walls Communications has been actively engaged in supporting the Army’s recruiting outreach efforts within the African American community facilitating relationships with such organizations as the National Urban League, National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) and Executive Leadership Council (ELC).

In addition, Walls Communications has provided media relations support for the Army’s sponsorship of the All American Bowl and NASCAR initiatives.

return to top NATIONAL NEWSPAPER PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION (NNPA)

During the National Newspaper Publishers Association’s annual mid-winter conference in Los Angeles in January 2003 and the organization’s successful national convention in June 2003 in Baltimore, Walls Communication coordinated major support and participation on behalf of the U.S. Army. Resulting ANRs for these two activities generated more than 5 million audience impressions.

ANNUAL NAACP NATIONAL CONVENTION

In July 2003 during the NAACP’s national convention in Miami, a Walls Communications broadcast production team coordinated a series of satellite media tours for television networks and local stations and a series of radio media tours for local radio stations and national networks. The tours featured NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and President & CEO Kweisi Mfume. The combined TV and radio tours garnered more than 20 million audience impressions.

return to top ANNUAL NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE CONFERENCE

During the Annual National Urban League conference in Pittsburgh in July 2003, Walls Communications provided the organization with extensive media relations support, coordinating and managing media coverage of the conference as well as the organization’s pre-conference “State of Black America” press conference in Washington, DC.

The Walls team also provided radio broadcast production services. These efforts generated almost 92 million audience impressions for the Urban League and a number of conference sponsors, including the U.S. Army.

Also, Walls Communications coordinated and managed the U.S. Army’s major sponsorship and participation at the Urban League conference in Pittsburgh. This included appearances and speeches by Gen. Vincent Brooks and Gen. Michael Rochelle.

Walls Communications, Inc. has worked with the National Urban League for over seven years providing support for its annual conferences and other events.
