The Director Generals of IICA

The structure of the Institute was adjusted to meet the challenges of the 21st century.  The Brathwaite Administration created new directorates poised to articulate the Institute’s direction. The Directorate for Performance Management and Evaluation; the Directorate for Follow-up of the Summits of the Americas Process; the Inter-American Program for the Promotion of Trade, Agribusiness and Food Safety, located in Miami and the Directorate for Strategic Partnerships, located in Washington , D.C. were established.

IICA has focused on the creation of alliances with new partners such as Croplife, Starbucks, the World Food Prize Foundation, the International Food Information Council and ECOSOC of the United Nations.  It also made preliminary contact with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and, working with USADI, made IICA offices more efficient by instituting new institutional arrangements that maximize advantage of the technical, financial and political resource available.  Efforts were made to increase the capabilities and opportunities offered by U.S. public institutions, companies and education centers involved in the improvement of agriculture and rural communities in the Americas.
